Dear Friends,
Following a successful Open House showcasing our extreme makeover, with hundreds of visitors and thousands raised, SAFES re-opened to the public on December 2. We are progressively growing busier as word travels on the streets and referrals pour in from community partners. Our vision and momentum for the future is exciting!
We all know that women are the most vulnerable people on the streets, yet there are so few resources that exclusively address women's issues, or environments that actually feel safe for women.
The Salvation Army remains committed.
SAFES and Safe Harbor have a tremendous impact on the lives of women in Portland.
We are a safe and peaceful space for those experiencing extreme poverty, mental health challenges, addiction and social isolation.
We offer Hospitality and unique services to all who identify as female: hot meals, showers, clothing, laundry facilities, dignified lice treatment, foot care, rent well classes, and healthy activities that foster community.
There are many ways to get involved! Please consider any one of our volunteer opportunities (highlighted later in the newsletter). We always need more humanitarians to carry out the important works of mercy at SAFES!
Working in the trenches requires a large team of volunteers and we also need generous monetary donations to sustain our programs. That's why we've launched an important Campaign for Love in 2020. With all the campaigning going on this year, we believe a Campaign for Love is what we all really need. Let's fund the LOVE at SAFES!
Together we can do it! This new year, I wish you peace, and I look forward to our important work as we continue to transform and strengthen and build hope in our community, one woman at a time.
Thanks for your support!
With gratitude,
Becky O'Neil McBrayer
Executive Director
We've launched an exciting campaign to raise awareness and funds for the critical work of SAFES!
Our goal is to raise $100,000 for women experiencing homelessness and transitioning out of homelessness in our City of Roses.
SAFES provides a safe place for vulnerable women to survive and flourish.
Please consider a generous gift to help us reach our goal by September 30--the end of our fiscal year.
Or mail a check payable to SAFES:
30 SW 2nd Ave, Portland OR 97204
All gifts are tax-deductible and very deeply appreciated.
